Nearing 10 Years of MIYA Creative Care: Honouring a Decade with the Creative Arts in Dementia Care Symposium

This year marks a milestone we are both humbled by and deeply proud of: 10 years of MIYA Creative Care.

What began as a small private practice of 1 music therapist in Toronto has grown into a community of music, art, and dance/movement therapists working side by side with long-term care homes, hospices, mental health centers, schools, and families across Ontario. At the heart of it all has been one simple purpose: to empower and enrich lives through creativity!

Why a Symposium?

When we asked ourselves how to celebrate this anniversary, the answer came quickly: by gathering people together to learn, share, and be inspired through the creative arts. Our Creative Arts in Dementia Care Symposium is not just an event—it’s a reflection of the values we’ve held since day one.

This gathering will highlight leading researchers, front-line practitioners, caregivers, and families. Together, we will explore how music, art, dance, and storytelling can support dignity, connection, and well-being for those living with dementia and their care partners.

In the past decade, we’ve witnessed countless moments that remind us why this work matters. These moments are why we do what we do. And as we celebrate 10 years, we also look ahead with determination—to continue building partnerships, deepening training, and elevating the role of creative arts in care.
