Movement Program: Dancing Through the Decades

Duration: 35 - 45 minutes (can be shortened or lengthened depending on how many songs and prompts you include)

Goals:

  • To promote physical movement and creative expression through accessible, decade-inspired dance.

  • To spark reminiscence and social connection through familiar music across eras.

Description: Dancing Through the Decades is an upbeat music and movement program where participants explore easy, guided dance moves inspired by popular dances from the 1940s through the 1990s. Using iconic hits from each era, participants practice signature moves that can be done standing or seated. Alongside the movement, reflective questions and sensory cues help participants connect more deeply with the music, memories, and culture of each decade.
