Jacob De Rose
Music Therapist
Jacob’s love for music began at the age of 12, when he started to take interest in learning various musical instruments including flute, saxophone, guitar, and drums. Through his adolescent years, Jacob began writing lyrics and singing in a band with his brother and closest friends. This formative experience helped to foster a deep appreciation for music, and sparked his curiosity in the therapeutic potential of music. Jacob’s growing passion for music and the inclination to dedicate his life to helping others led him to the field of music therapy. Jacob received his Bachelor of Music (BMus) with Honours in composition from Western University in 2019 and his Masters of Music Therapy (MMT) Degree from Wilfrid Laurier University in 2021. He is a board certified and credentialed music therapist (MT-BC, MTA). Jacob’s clinical experience includes working with individuals and groups in long-term care and palliative care, adults with physiological/cognitive disabilities, and children and adolescents (ages 3-18) with special needs. He enjoys using music improvisation, songwriting and singing as tools for reflection and creative self-expression, as well as integrating mindfulness meditation and music. Jacob is a strong believer of music’s potential to facilitate creative emotional expression and reinforce social connections. He likes to say that music is every human's birthright, and that we are all innately musical beings - if you have a beating heart, you are a musical person!
